my begonia corallina, since I put it in the apartment (about two years) no longer blooms. Can you suggest what to do? Grazie.ps.trattasi of coral begonia with hanging flowers.
Coral Begonia: Answer: begonias flowers
the begonia corallina, or begonia Tamaya, is an evergreen plant native to Brazil, which has always been very successful as a houseplant, as the cultivation is very simple, and even in small pots you can get good sized plants, which remain full of flowers for most of the year. Even the foliage is very decorative and elegant, but I realize that the plant loses much of its charm if it stops flowering. It seems strange enough that your begonia does not make any more flowers, because usually these plants adapt well even in non-ideal conditions, and therefore they bloom even when they are slightly scrambled. In your case, these are probably problems due to how you grow the plant, but since you do not describe where you keep it, how many times you fertilize it, if you have ever repotted it, I will try to show you how the plant should be grown and what are the mistakes of cultivation that could lead the plain to stop flowering. The first fundamental element for abundant flowering is sunlight: begonias do not like direct sunlight, but still need to be grown in a bright area of the house, and not in a dark corner; for example on the wall in front of a well exposed window, so that the light that reaches the plant is not direct, but is in any case a lot. Often it is also necessary for many plants to spend at least a few weeks in a cool climate before starting to bloom again, so that they spend a certain period of vegetative rest; the most beautiful coral begonias I saw in the apartment, lived in a very bright stairwell, but without heating, which in addition to guaranteeing a winter climate of around 14-16 ° C, had a fairly humid air, which allowed the foliage to grow lush. Even at home, it would be advisable to keep most of the plants in a poorly heated room, and in any case away from heat sources, such as radiators, air conditioners, fireplaces, stoves, so that they do not become too hot and that they do not come with a very dry air. To have a lush and flower-filled plain it is also important to provide (from March to October) a good fertilizer, mixing it with the irrigating water every fifteen days or so; always choose an excellent quality fertilizer, which in addition to the usual macroelements also contains microelements such as iron, boron, manganese, etc. In addition to this, although begonias can survive in small containers, it is good to repot them, at least every two or three years; it is not necessary to move them in a larger container (unless you can see roots that come out of the pot), but it is important to change the soil with fresh universal soil.
