Advice on how to water it

Asphodel, thanks to its delicate and pale flowers, can greatly embellish gardens and the like. Its splendid bushes decorate the environment and do not represent, for those who choose to sow this plant, a particularly onerous job. From the point of view of daily care, in fact, Asphodel does not need special attention. The natural rains that occur in medium and temperate climates are able to provide the plant with the right amount of water that it needs to grow and prosper. Only in case of drought it will be good to regularly water the bush in order to prevent it from drying out. In this case, the only important thing to keep in mind will be to not wet the plant too much. The roots of Asphodel, in fact, are very delicate and are particularly affected by the stagnation of water. Yes to irrigation, therefore, but be careful and careful, to avoid ruining the bushes, otherwise strong and resistant.

Sowing, cultivating and caring for them

Given the delicacy of its roots, asphodel transplantation is not the simplest. Therefore, to cultivate this beautiful flower it is advisable to plant the seeds directly, especially in autumn or spring. These will be placed under a very small patch of earth, taking care not to cover them excessively. The seed of the Asphodelus will be activated in the cold season but, for the plant to complete its growth, it will take about three years. A rather long time, which will certainly repay the wait, given the wonderful result. At the end of the three years, the plant can be moved from the pot to the earth. Accustomed to withstand the most disparate climates, especially cold ones, it does not need particular types of soil in order to develop, provided they are not too hard. It is the soft soil where the Asfodelo bushes give their best, as can be seen from the beautiful blooms that soften the branches in late spring. When they dry up, it will be good to make a careful pruning, aimed at eliminating mainly the ruined parts of the plant and the dried flowers.

Fertilizers to use

As is known, fertilization is one of the most important passages to transmit to the soil and, consequently, to the plant, a whole series of nutritive principles such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus but also iron, calcium and magnesium which, enriching with substances the soil, favor a better development of the various crops. Asphodel is no exception: in order to grow luxuriant and strong, it needs a balanced chemical fertilizer, preferably granular, with a slow release and based on minerals such as nitrogen phosphorus and potassium, highly nutritious substances able to strengthen the structure of the plant itself. This type of fertilizer dissolves gradually, in contact with water. The best time to fertilize Asphodel is early spring, before flowering occurs. The use of granular fertilizers, thanks to their progressive release, will prevent the process from being carried out with excessive frequency. The best way to do this is to spread the fertilizer on the soil by hand.

Asphodel: Exposure, parasites and diseases

The best possible exposure for the Asphodel plant is undoubtedly in the sun or, at most, in areas only partially in the shade. The bushes, placed at a minimum distance of at least thirty centimeters from each other, benefit in fact from the sunlight even if direct. Being a strong and strong plant, Asphodel resists vigorously to various pests and diseases. There are no typical infestations or specific health problems. Its hardening is not only in the root system, which is subject to rot: caused by a fungus, this pathology, which manifests itself with a series of very small plates of light color arranged as to form a sort of fan, takes root on plants already suffering and , above all, affected by water stagnations. Particularly serious, the infection caused by the rot can be treated with special products only if taken at an early stage: in this case, the compromised parts will have to be cut and disinfected. If, on the other hand, the rot was already extended in the roots, the Asphodel will be eradicated in order not to take root in the fungus also to the neighboring plants, and the soil on which it was planted will be reclaimed and disinfected.
